Choosing the right tiles for your project is a very important task and we are here to help! Whether you’re getting stuck into a bathroom renovation or fancy giving your kitchen a new look picking the correct style of tile is your first step and what better place to do it other than Online Tile?
There are a few important factors to have in mind when purchasing tiles online. Firstly you need to know where you will be tiling, will you be needing floor tiles or wall tiles? As these can be very different in size and texture as with our wide range of flooring tiles we make sure they are suitable for walking on, usually with a better slip rating and better scratch resistant. Wall tiles can be smaller and sometimes more fragile with glossy finishes, however they look stunning as splash backs or future walls with some texture. Once you’ve decided on what area you’re tiling you can move onto the material!
Deciding what material your tiles should be and is it important? Choosing the correct material for floor tiling is more important than when tiling walls. You need to consider durability and texture the tiles have. At Online Tile we have a wide range of porcelain and ceramic options. Porcelain tiles have great durability and are a great flooring option however they are very versatile and can be laid pretty much anywhere! Ceramic tiles are also a great option if you’re looking for something more affordable. They rant as durable as porcelain however in some cases can still be used on floors depending on their finish and foot traffic.
Choosing the finish you love! Online tile has a lot of options and it can be very confusing to a first time buyer. The finish of your tile is a huge aspect of the design and what you want the finished project to look like. Here are the options you may come across and what to expect:
Matte finish tiles , this is a finish that has a special layer on the very top of the tile giving it a non-shiny look and something that is a little more subtle. this particular finish is especially popular when tiling floors.
Gloss finish tiles, our range of gloss tiles give a shiny and mirror like look that can create a beautiful vibrant look to your project. They can make a room seem bigger and brighter so they are a great option for anyone looking brighten up their space. Gloss finished tiles are normally ceramic and decorative.
Honed Finish tiles, a honed finish is very similar to a matte tile, the difference being the process to get there! When I tile is honed it means the surface has been buffed to a satin like feel and is smooth with a matte like look.
Polished finish tiles, a polished finish is also very similar to gloss but more commonly used on porcelain. This finish tile is accomplished by polishing the tile with a diamond disk. These tiles incredibly hard wearing and are a great option if you want something more durable than gloss.
Lapatto Finish tiles, this is a semi polished finish, has a better grip than gloss or polished finish and is suitable for wet surfaces and flooring if you wanted to achieve a shining look on your floors with grip.
Finally choosing your colour & style! This is the fun part and completely up to you. Once you’ve carefully decided on all the other aspects you can simply use our filter system and choose your style and colour tile! Online Tile has a huge range of products for you to explore. From terrazzo
